Local reporters
working with KFCF are producing stories of local interest and sending them to the
KPFA news
department in Berkeley for inclusion in one of KPFA's news broadcasts. These
reporters are paid by KFCF on a per-story basis.
KPFA is cooperating with us and has started working with some of our reporters. You may have already heard some of these stories on KPFA. The local reporters did these stories without pay because they, like you and all of us, believe in the value of local news.
Those pioneering reporters have shown us the way forward, and now it is time for us to build upon their efforts and create a pilot program for paid news stringers. In this way, over time, we expect to substantially increase the number of stories coming out of the valley.
The startup budget is a modest $3600 for the first year; we will begin broadcasting once that initial goal has been reached. If we raise more than that, we will produce more stories. It is as simple as that.
If
you like the idea of local alternative news that would include perspectives not
usually aired in the corporate media, the KFCF
news stringer program is your baby. Please contribute generously. Make
checks payable to KFCF-FM and write "news stringer"
on the memo line. As always, your donations to KFCF and to the Fresno
Free College Foundation are tax deductible.
